1What is zero-knowledge

Zero-knowledge architecture means the provider cannot access your data. Your passwords are encrypted locally before leaving your device. Even if servers are breached, attackers get only encrypted data.

2How it works

Your master password derives an encryption key locally. Data is encrypted/decrypted only on your devices. The provider stores only encrypted blobs they cannot read.

3Why it matters

Without zero-knowledge, providers could potentially access your passwords. With zero-knowledge, even subpoenas cannot reveal your data since the provider genuinely cannot decrypt it.

4Verifying zero-knowledge

Open-source managers let you verify the implementation. Look for independent security audits. Reputable managers publish their security architecture publicly.
